Sometimes, it’s the natural things that are particularly valuable. Warm thermal water, rising deep from within the mountains. Clear air. Movement in nature. Warmth, tranquility, and sufficient time for regeneration.
In the Gastein Valley, many of these things have held their firm place for centuries. Long before terms like Healthy Aging, prevention, or Longevity became part of our daily lives, people came to Gastein to utilize the valley’s natural characteristics for their well-being.
Today, this long tradition meets a modern understanding of a conscious lifestyle. Because those who want to take good care of themselves in the long term should start earlier – with exercise, recovery, mental balance, and moments that provide new energy for body and mind.
Thermal water and healing galleries: Gastein’s special treasures.
One of the valley’s most renowned natural resources is the Gastein thermal water. It makes its way through the interior of the mountain, heats up there, and re-emerges in Bad Gastein. Daily, approximately five million liters of thermal water flow with temperatures of about 44 to 47 °C.
For centuries, the thermal water has been used in Gastein. Today, guests encounter it, among other places, in the region’s thermal spas and in various therapeutic applications.
Another special feature lies deep within the Radhausberg near Böckstein: the Gastein healing gallery. There, naturally occurring radon, high humidity, and temperatures between approximately 37 and 41.5 °C converge. This special gallery climate is therapeutically used as part of radon thermal therapy. A medical examination is conducted before entering for therapy.
In addition to the healing gallery, the naturally occurring radon in Gastein is also used in radon thermal vapor baths and radon thermal tub baths. Thus, the valley possesses natural resources that have shaped its spa tradition over generations and are still used today under medical supervision.
Movement, nature, and regeneration.
However, what benefits us in the long term doesn’t begin only with a treatment. Regular exercise, sufficient rest, good sleep, and mental balance are also part of a conscious lifestyle.
And the Gastein mountain world offers plenty of space for exactly that.
Hiking across alpine meadows and through forests, cycling through the valley, yoga on the mountain, or simply spending a few hours outdoors: movement can be naturally combined with nature here. Topics such as yoga, forest bathing, and conscious deceleration are also part of the offerings in Gastein.
It doesn’t always have to be about athletic performance. A walk, a hike, or a conscious break can be just as valuable. What’s more crucial is to regularly integrate movement back into one’s daily life while simultaneously creating enough space for regeneration and recovery.
This creates an interplay that also plays an important role today in the context of Healthy Aging and Longevity: staying active, consciously regenerating, and taking good care of body and mind in the long term.
