Autumn Holiday in Gastein – 5 Reasons for a Retreat at DAS.GOLDBERG

When the forests around Bad Hofgastein slowly change their colors, the air becomes clearer, and the first snow perhaps already lies on the peaks, a particularly beautiful time begins in the Gastein Valley. Autumn brings calm to the mountains – and creates space for all that is often neglected in everyday life.

Perched high above Bad Hofgastein, DAS.GOLDBERG sits on a sunny high plateau with sweeping views over the Gastein Valley and the mountain world of the Hohe Tauern. Hiking through colorful forests, immersing yourself in warm water, enjoying regional autumn cuisine, or simply sitting by the fireplace and gazing outside: Five reasons why an autumn holiday in Gastein is especially restorative.

1. Autumn Hiking in Gastein – Straight into Nature

Golden forests, clear mountain air, and trails where calm gradually settles in: Autumn is one of the most beautiful seasons for hiking in Gastein. Around 350 kilometers of hiking trails lead through the Gastein Valley – and from DAS.GOLDBERG, you step directly out into nature.

Those who wish to explore together can join our mountain guide Christian. Five times a week, he leads guests to special places in the Gastein mountains. One highlight is the sunrise hike to the Biberalm with a traditional farmer’s breakfast afterward. The barefoot walk along the Sepp Poesie Forest Trail also shows how intensely nature can be experienced when you take time for it.

Hiking poles, backpacks, and e-bikes can be borrowed directly at the hotel – for all those who prefer to discover the Gastein Valley on their own.

2. Wellness with Sweeping Views at Nature’s Nest

When it grows cooler outside, warmth feels all the more comforting. At Nature’s Nest, 1,500 m² unite wellness, nature, and unobstructed views over Bad Hofgastein.

In the 22-meter infinity pool, a fine veil of steam hovers over the warm water on cool mornings, while the first snow-capped peaks become visible across the valley. Whirlpool, cold-water pool with waterfall, and various saunas invite you to alternate between warmth and refreshing coolness.

Particularly soothing is the GOLD.STOLLEN. The caldarium was crafted from 420 tons of natural stone from the Hohe Tauern. The spa experience is complemented by nature-inspired treatments with mountain salt, honey, or deep moor from the forest.

And sometimes autumn surprises with a warm sunny day. Then our natural bathing lake with sandy beach awaits below the hotel – comfortably usable until the end of October.

3. Autumn Flavors from Forest and Meadow

Autumn tastes of mushrooms, herbs, game, and all the ingredients the region brings forth now. Under our culinary motto Wald.Wiese.Wertvolles., much of this finds its way onto the plate.

Homemade bread, jams, herbal salts, and our own liqueurs are part of it, as are predominantly regional products. The day begins in the morning with our breakfast buffet and coffee from our in-house roastery. In the evening, the five-course menu can be individually composed – from “Mein Wertvollstes” with meat and fish or the vegetarian line “Wald und Wiese.”

Those who wish to extend the evening a little longer will find at the bar a selection of around 500 wines as well as numerous gin and whiskey varieties.

4. Retreat with Mountain Views

After a day outdoors, it may be especially cozy indoors. Large glass fronts bring the autumn mountain world into our studios and suites, while natural materials such as clay, linen, and Swiss pine create warmth.

A freestanding bathtub, the view out over the Gastein Valley, and the fire in the fireplace sometimes turn an autumn evening into exactly what you longed for: an evening without plans.

Even more private wellness indulgence is offered by our SPA.Suiten with private Swiss pine sauna and relaxation room. In the Spa.Chalet, a private herbal sauna and large skylights await, through which the starry sky can be seen from the bed – a special retreat for a romantic getaway for two in Gastein.

5. Yoga.Herbst in Gastein

Autumn invites you not only to arrive outdoors, but also within yourself. From October 16 to 26, 2026, the Gastein Valley will be entirely dedicated to movement, mindfulness, and conscious moments during Yoga.Herbst.

DAS.GOLDBERG has been a partner of the event for many years. During Yoga.Herbst, our guests can also expect a varied program at the hotel. Our yoga instructors Damara Berger and Verena Lainer guide sessions including yoga fusion, vinyasa flow, hatha yoga, pranayama, and meditation.

The yoga program at the hotel is complimentary for our guests. Additional sessions lead out into nature and combine yoga with special places in the autumnal Gastein Valley. Whether it is your first encounter with the yoga mat or yoga has long been part of your everyday life – here everyone may find their own rhythm.

Autumn.Time at DAS.GOLDBERG

Perhaps it is precisely the time between summer and winter that holds its very own magic. When the mountains become quieter. When warm water awaits after a hike. When temperatures drop outside and the fireplace crackles inside.

An autumn getaway in Bad Hofgastein doesn’t need much of a program. Sometimes, a sweeping view over the Gastein Valley, a walk through the colorful forest, good food, and the feeling of not having to be anywhere else for a few days are enough.

At DAS.GOLDBERG, autumn finds its very special place for this.
