The Gastein Valley is considered a real insider tip for trail running in Salzburg. On marked and GPS-recorded routes, runners discover the diverse mountain world around Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein, and Dorfgastein.

The trails lead over fantastic single trails, historic paths, and scenic high-altitude routes to impressive peaks, picturesque mountain lakes, and spectacular ridge runs with breathtaking panoramic views. Fast downhills are also not to be missed.

With approximately 600 kilometers of marked trails, the Gastein Valley offers ideal conditions for varied trail running tours. Whether it’s a sporty trail running weekend or a longer trail running break in the mountains – there are new routes to discover every day.

On the permanent trail running routes (T1–T5), you can simply follow the signage. If you want to discover new routes, the interactive trail running map shows all routes, elevation gains, and GPX tracks at a glance.

Paragliding & tandem flight

Flights of fancy. High above. Above the things. Paragliding in the Gastein Valley offers a unique view of the mountains around Bad Gastein, Bad Hofgastein, and Dorfgastein.

From the launch sites on Stubnerkogel, Schlossalm, or Fulseck, paragliders glide over alpine pastures, valleys, and peaks. The stable thermal conditions make the Gastein Valley a popular flying area in Salzburger Land.

Experience this feeling of freedom together with an experienced pilot during a tandem flight over Gastein. No prior experience is necessary for a tandem paragliding flight. Children as young as 6 years old can soar through the air.

With the “Flying Waters” Flying Fox in Bad Gastein, you spectacularly hover over the world-famous Gastein waterfall and experience the historic town center from a completely new perspective.

The approximately 300-meter-long route leads from Villa Solitude over the gorge of the Gasteiner Ache to the Thermalquellpark. At speeds of up to 40 km/h, visitors glide on the double-rope slide over the waterfall path, Grabenbäckersteig, and the impressive backdrop of Bad Gastein.

Thanks to professional safety measures, the Flying Fox becomes a safe adventure for all ages.

Climbing & Via Ferratas in the Gastein Valley

The Gastein Valley offers ideal conditions for climbing in Salzburger Land – for beginners, families, and experienced mountaineers.

The via ferrata on the Mauskarspitze above Bad Hofgastein is particularly popular. The varied route leads through the impressive mountain world around the Schlossalm and offers spectacular views over the Gastein Valley. A special highlight is the approximately 30-meter-long rope bridge, which makes the via ferrata a unique experience.

Thanks to various options, the route is suitable for both beginners and experienced climbers. In combination with a hike on the Schlossalm, it becomes a varied day in the Gastein mountains.
