The former building, the Pyrkerhöhe, was first mentioned in documents in 1905 as a farm with an attached inn –
a popular place for spa guests and summer visitors. High above the Gastein Valley.
The roots of our family lie in the neighboring Großarl valley.
While spa guests were already staying in the Gastein Valley around the imperial era, life in Großarl was still modest –
in a mountain farming village that was supported by the solidarity of its people.
Vera and Georg’s parents grew up in large mountain farming families who recognized the value of hard work, courage and community early on.
Peter Seer, master painter and one of fifteen siblings,
built the Hotel Kathrin in Großarl together with his wife Katharina.
Vera’s parents, Johann Prommegger – one of thirteen children – and his wife Josefine,
also built the Hotel Alpenhof in Großarl and the Hotel Almhof in Dienten with a lot of passion.
So both Vera and Georg grew up in their parents’ hotels – houses that were built with a lot of work, craftsmanship and love.
Peter Seer was also one of the co-founders of the Großarl mountain railways.
In 1981, the Pyrkerhöhe in Bad Hofgastein was for sale.
Peter and Katharina acquired the inn with great courage and vision.
With determination and tireless work, they renovated the business and expanded it by 24 rooms.
A new beginning. A family. A vision.
In 1998, Georg and Vera Seer took over the business – with the knowledge of what real hospitality means.
Their goal was clear: to rebuild the old building section of the Pyrkerhöhe and rethink the hotel – modern, close to nature and timeless.
After ten years of intensive planning and some hurdles, the time had come:
An additional hectare of land was acquired to implement the vision.
On September 1, 2012, the old building was demolished,
on July 19, 2013, the new 5-star nature, design and wellness hotel DAS.GOLDBERG opened in Salzburger Land.
A family-run hotel in the Gastein Valley that preserves the history of its family – and fills it with new life.
A place where the golden age of the Gastein Valley, the values of the Seer family and the stories of our guests come together.
