Summer

Mountains in Flames

As the longest day of the year comes to an end, the mountains in Salzburg glow in a magical firelight: Every year at the summer solstice, the Gastein Valley becomes the stage for an ancient ritual – Mountains in Flames. An experience that combines nature, tradition, and emotions.

Tradition Meets Nature

The summer solstice marks the astronomical beginning of summer and is a celebration of light. For centuries, this day has been celebrated in the Austrian Alps with fires on the peaks – a symbol of the power of the sun, for purification, protection, and joy of life.

In the Gastein Valley, this ritual is particularly impressive: As soon as it gets dark, hundreds of mountain fires. The silhouettes of the Salzburg mountains glow and give the landscape a mystical atmosphere.

A very special experience awaits you on our GOLDBERG panorama terrace – with an unparalleled view of the silhouette of the Gastein mountain world.
